Connemara.

Yesterday was a cracker of a day so when the kids went out the door to a hurling blitz I geared up and headed for the bumpy roads of Connemara. First stop was fuel in Gort where I met a biker gang called the bandidos. They nodded at me and fleetingly glanced at my bike. The prospect guy even spoke to me and for a moment I thought they were going to ask me if I wanted to join the gang. The thought of going through the initiation ceremony at my age was not pleasant, but after spending four hours in the saddle on Connemara roads it might have been less painful.The bandidos departed with a wave and lots of noise as they headed for Supermacs to refuel and continue on their journey to
Donegal.
Eirhead arrived shortly after and off we went with a rough idea of a final destination ( which we never made ),we took a wrong turn and ended up on the wrong peninsula. We ended up in Kilkieran where St Kieran hung out many centuries ago.
It’s a beautiful place with very bumpy roads and too much speed will put you out of the saddle and possibly in the ditch if you let loose. We didn’t have time for the final push to Roundstone so it was back to Salthill for ice cream and complain how uncomfortable the seats are on our bikes.Reminded me of an episode of last of the summer wine.

Re: Connemara.

It's a great place for bikeing, if you want hill, twists and turns.
After kilkieran, the road and views get better, from there to roundstone, ballyconnelly them into Clifden.
Well wort the trip.

Re: Connemara.

Lovely country up there, Sean. Unfortunately the last time that I was heading for Roundstone it pissed out of the heavens & the fog came down so I had to scratch Roundstone off my itinerary as well & leg it back up to Westport where I was staying BTW your bike is looking great

That is why so many buy BMW, you don't even think of the bumps just power on.

At first I thought ya were trollin, then I realised - by bumps ya meant breakdowns. Having a tow truck co' on speed dial wouldn't really be everybody's idea of powering on though.

Nothing negative it is just that BMW suspension and brakes are a generation ahead of everything else (and i am from Connemara).

Living the dream,.. on Morphine ;

Face plant at 30mph on the dirt or sand is fine, but you couldn't trust a fundamentally flawed telelever suspension if regularly into big speeds and clocking up lots of mileage under all sorts of conditions and roads with over stressed components & metal fatigue from bits made out of tin-foil to save weight, at least KTM and Honda will work properly off-road and survive the odd bang or pothole when the going gets rough.

Connemara is nice, along with parts of Kerry and Wicklow but I dont think any thing compares to the North East coast of Antrim for stunning views and biking roads.

If you venture along the Mullaghboy peninsula, there's an old man at Goblins Path who sells a one way ticket to the Gortmore mountains via the underworld to experience the elevated statue of Manannan Mac Lir - guardian of the afterlife in pre-christian times and arguably still holds a bit of clout, but be careful - with great power comes great responsibility when skullin back poitín laced with dmt.
