Re: valve clearance questions (started as zxr400 questions)

This is of the same topic but slightly off as well, lol.
Im changing the valve cover gasket on my XJ550, do i need to check valve clearances when in there, even if the bike is fine?
Thanks a lot

Yes you should check them while in that area anyway

Re: valve clearance questions (started as zxr400 questions)

I'm half way through checking the valve clearances on a vfr vtec. I've ordered the stopper pins from david silver but they are still on back order after nearly 2 weeks.

All the non-vtec valves are in spec. Should I just wait for the pins to come (if they ever do. Apparently Honda have stopped making them) or are they usually in spec anyway? There's 44000 miles on the bike now and there was no record of clearances being done since the 16000 service at main dealer.

Re: valve clearance questions (started as zxr400 questions)

Thanks chopper but I actually found the dimensions of them online after i had put the order through with David silver spares. I could probably get someone to make them for me if I'm stuck.

I'm just considering not checking them at all now. I have full service history from previous owner and he was getting 12000 miles from a set of PR2 tyres. I'd say vtec wasn't even being used before I bought it!!

I have a few more jobs to do on the bike while it's stripped. If the pins don't come by the time I'm finished I'll just skip it this service
