XT660X Wont start, no spark

Drove the bike yesterday, no problems.

Went to go for a spin this morning but wont start.

Has petrol, in neutral, kill switch is off, side stand up.

Took the spark plug out, there is no spark.

Any ideas?

Change spark plug?

Re: XT660X Wont start, no spark

I am getting the engine light on the left. I think that is normally there before starting. However, it is flashing when the engine is trying to start while the engine turns over.

It has always started first click so I do not know if that is normal to do while trying to start.

Did you try a different spark plug?

Do you have the red key? Kill switch in off position,Hold select and reset, turn ignition on and keep on holding the buttons till diag comes on screen, release buttons, then press both again. Press select and scroll to 61...this will tell you the fault codes stored, write them down, scroll to 62,turn kill on then off, codes should be cleared unless they are still present.

Is it the Fi light or key symbol that’s flashing?

Re: XT660X Wont start, no spark

could be something simple like the battery.

Check the voltages.

Had a similar issue before, turned out to be the battery.

I followed your instructions. I got 2 warnings for 61, number 12 and 30.

A quick look online for diagnostic numbers (I am not 100% sure these are correct):
Error Number 12 : Crankshaft posiiton sensor error - DIAG mode (none)
Error Number 30 : The bike went down - DIAG mode 08

I reset them at 62 and checked again, they are no longer showing the error. Still wont start.

However, after turning the key to off and back on, it just shows "19" before I try and start the engine, it then changes and shows the odometer after I press the ignition. (I have attached a picture of error 19)

I check diagnostics number again:
Error Number 19 : Sidestand sensor error - DIAG mode 20

Is that 19 the new error now or is that something else?

Much appreciate help so far man

Battery is turning over no problem so I do not think that is it.

Spark plug looks okay to be fair. I might grab one in Lee's tomorrow to be sure

Yeah so you’ll get a crank sensor on a no start, and tip over...well that’s obvious enough. Check the contacts on sidestand

I checked all connections man and they are good. I did a bit of research on Google and error 19 most of the time means a blown resistor in the ECU. There is a video on YouTube that shows you how to repair the ECU but it is in Portugese...

If I order a new ECU, I need the red key to programme it. I only have 1 black key.

I contacted the previous owner and he for sure doesn't have the red key.

Therefore, as far as I can see, Im fucked. €€€

Re: XT660X Wont start, no spark

Bike is up and running again. Turned out it was an issue with ECU.

Thanks to DavyH for helping with ECU codes and putting me in touch with Gary from Mototuning who got it up and running again.

Just in time for great weather

Sorry man, I never saw this.

From what I have read on forums, Supposedly its an issue with pre 2006 ECU's (Mine was a 2005). Some part of the ECU fails over time from the side stand cut off signal being sent to it.

I ordered an 2008 ECU from a breakers in The Netherlands, Boonstraparts.com. Sent both ECU's to Mototuning in Dublin. They copied the data from the old knackered ECU and passed it over to the new one.

Happy motoring since
