Itís certainly borderline right now.

Cylinder
Piston kit
At best a rod kit
At worst a complete crank
New mains
Complete gasket set
Possibly some valves etc

Going to check the bottom end and oil pumps over next....fatigue on the small end is setting alarm bells off!!! Already into big money without incl labor which would be pretty heavy but lucky for this lad weíre good mates. Just waiting on a flywheel puller now and keep digging away at it

Re: When engines go bad

If it is going to be rebuilt, while you are at it check if the bearing for the main drive shaft coming out of the engine has ball or roller bearings. Originally balls were used, but the rollers were a better job, and were a recommended 'upgrade'. Worth doing while everything is apart. (only applies to pre-2003 models)

Iíd say it heat seized and the small end started breaking up,now weather its oil pump or cooling related I donít yet know for sure but I think it might be more down to oil at this point. Iíll have a look at the pumps next and see what condition theyíre in

Re: When engines go bad

So this motor is on the back burner,Iím going to keep an eye out for some cheaper used parts, already with what I know it needs the parts bill was over a grand, managed to source a used motor with 4500mls for a pretty good price so weíll put a donkey in and get him back on the road,Iíll update the thread when I start doing more with the blown motor
