» The usual bike insurance crap....
May 29, 2020 - 12:31 PM - by Harley Riders Love A Reacharound
Who's any good? Carole Nash just quoted me double what i was paying last years for reasons unknown, couldn't be arsed even ringing them at the minute. Who's using who at the mo? Like to have open drive so I dont have to worry if I hop on another yoke, and breakdown assist is handy.

I hate insurance companies....

Does anyone have a number for Stephane Doherty (SD Designs)?
I was in touch with him via FB before Christmas and he said he'd be back up and running in March. Tried to get in touch again last April to arrange getting a small bit of work done but no reply. Anyone know the craic or failing that can anyone recommend a good and reliable spray painter?

Howye lads,

Long time no post. I hope you are all doing well.

Quick question, what is the most cost effective way of transporting a bike down to Montenegro? It is a bit of a quirky place as its just outside the EU but I can even collect the bike in Dubrovnik, Croatia for example.

Anyone with any help, advice or experience, it would be sound for a finger in the right direction.

Sound as a pound,

Hi all , with the shut down of work etc it has given me time to pull a few old classics out of hibernation and the first one I have given a bit of a spruce up to is the H1, it needed a new seat cover and a respray but I couldn't believe my luck last October at the Stafford show I found a tank side panel and oil tank ready for fitting all resprayed with graphics etc . They didn't come cheap but respraying my own and with graphics I thought buy these and sell my own. I have it almost finished bar a set of points the centre set of points are a bit iffy at times. Also to see another one here in a recent post its nice to see a few survivors fairly intact

So sad to hear of the passing of Billy on 5th April. Prior to competing in the sport myself, I always loved to see Billy racing whether it be at the TT (he was entered from 1960 to 1974 - some record !!) or at the Irish national meetings. He obviously held Dunboyne among his favourites - he frequently attended the Spirit Of Dunboyne revival events in recent years riding his beautiful Matchless G50. We will greatly miss him - a great Irish racer !

» Can you even enjoy bikes anymore?
May 24, 2020 - 9:22 AM - by Christopher Livingstone Eubanks
Gestapo cunts everywhere now, they love to camp in speed changing zones such as 80 to 60 and are everywhere now solving the biggest problem the world has ever seen: speeding.

It takes the smallest twist of throttle in the lower gears to end up in court with a possible ban for "dangerous driving"

Fuck that life, I'd imagine the 90s and early 2000s were much better time. As the time goes on, there are more and more restrictions and control which the population is happy to oblige with as it "saves lives"

Everyone on the bike speeds and I guess it is not as bad as UK yet though where they spend massive amount of resources trying to catch someone doing 100mph+ from a video posted online but it is getting there.

» Shout out for local mechanics
May 23, 2020 - 8:22 PM - by Irish Mav
Been a while since I was on here but said I'd give a shout out to some local mechanics in Wicklow (Kilcoole) called depo moto. Was a bit stuck getting the bike running and they came and collected it, fixed it and were great about keeping me posted, videos etc. So I got them to do a Full service too on the basis they had been great to deal with up to then and had it all done in no time. Bike runs like new and in fairness they were good value. I'm only posting as they are good lads to deal with and don't seem to be very well known so I'd love to see them do well.

» GS550 Head Wrecker
May 23, 2020 - 3:05 PM - by pryrates
After a long time in storage working on bringing a 1983 Suzuki GS550 back to life. Carbs have been fully cleaned, a few times now.

Bike starts but as soon as it heats up climbs in revs and sits about 5k. Cylinder 4 seems to be cold and not firing. It has two carbs feeding 4 cylinders and the other cylinder from this carb seems to be getting fuel and firing. Similarly it has two coil packs and the other cylinder with the same coil pack is firing.

When out of the cylinder plug appears to be sparking. All other plugs have slight purplish coloration on electrode which I assume is causing by spark and not cylinder temp. Is it possible that a coil could still give enough to cause a spark but break down as it heats up in operation? I'm at my wit's end with it. Any... [Read More]

May 20, 2020 - 8:27 AM - by rhinos
2019 vehicle stats

42,292 taxed bikes in 2019. Up over 4,000 from 2015.

Over 12,000 of them are Honda's. BMW in second with about 5,000.

Didn't think the number of bikes on the road was going up

Will go to UK soon to collect a bike. Around 200 mile journey. Insurance is not a problem. The bike is taxed and has MOT, however I was reading one of the unmentionable forums and found this:

"Sellers insurance is immaterial from a cover point of view. But, as all vehicles are tracked by ANPR, if you pass an ANPR camera car it will flag as uninsured and you'll be pulled over on the spot. You produce your own (Irish) insurance (and they're still in the EU, so it is valid) and you should be OK except for. ..........once you do a change of ownership is done in the UK, the tax automatically lapses. So you (might) get pulled for tax. Which, in the UK, they can seize the vehicle for...."

I honestly would prefer to ride the bike back myself if possible but... [Read More]

May 16, 2020 - 1:37 AM - by 2shea
What you think?

Meant to be using the African Twin engine so about 100bhp with shaft drive and DCT.

They should have just made the CTX 700 shaft drive and that would have been a great replacement for the Deauville.

It's a segment that has an opening, mid-sized, shaft driven machine for commuting and a bit of touring.

Lads, quick question, Iíve refitted the carbs to the baby Gixxer and Iím not sure where two pipes go.
On the carbs thereís a pipe in the centre of them up at the top (connects to a T piece which is joining the carbs) and the second is below it (same is connected to a T piece connecting the bottom of the carbs) What pipes connect to these? I presume one is fuel feed and second is a breather pipe?

Also from the fuel tap on the tank - small pipe goes to top of carb- where does the main thicker pipe go on the carbs?

I can get the bike to start but it was revving to 7k which I presume is an air leak. If I put enough juice in the carbs it will start and idle normally

I didnít pull these apart so not sure where they go and I canít find the... [Read More]

» Got the bike on Dyno today
May 14, 2020 - 2:19 PM - by R.M
Took the blade to JOG today to see what the crack was. I knew there was a flat spot around 3k. Bike is standard except for slip on Racefit can.

Was thinking if it has 175hp at crank, then I would see around 155hp at rear wheel.
Was pleasantly surprised to see it put out just shy of 167.

Definitely at flat spot & fuelling it out, so a powercommander is being ordered by John & will be fitted next week.

Reckon 170+ at rear wheel & smooth power delivery.
My first time seen a dyno in action in person. Nice set up he has.
