I must hate myself - decided to trade in the 1290 for a new 1290! Another KTM. Dirtboxes!
Stuck with an August 8th first service date so running it in gently enough and trying to keep the mileage down a good bit. It still has plenty of low end so twisty roads are fun. The Akra map will be lobbed on at the first service so the dustbin exhaust will be taken off then.

Enjoying so far - slightly revised bits and bobs and the stiffer forks springs and slightly different bar position definitely make it feel a bit more secure on the front in corners. Granted I have no idea what the stability will be like when the full yoke is unleashed but it seems better. Not too pushed on... [Read More]

» Looking for Galway bike accident witness
Jul 18, 2019 - 8:31 AM - by FatherTed
Hi Lads,
about 2 months ago I was cycling home in Galway over the Wolfe Tone bridge and a cnut in a suv yoke turned left and wiped me out. He never stopped and took off only to be stopped by 2 gardai about 50m away. I thought it was cut and dried and there would be no issue. Turns out he's denying responsibility, his insurance have told me to piss off, the gardai said they saw me on the ground but didnt see the collision. But a lad on a bronze/gold coloured motorbike behind me stopped and helped me up (thanks for that lad).

I was hoping to see if he was on here and would be able to volunteer a statement? Or if anyone knows of a lad with that description to let him know? I don't remember the make or model of the bike.

No serious damage done, just some... [Read More]

» One for the [email protected] Heads.. the 1340 ?
Jul 17, 2019 - 6:01 PM - by -alan-
I really should know better than to ask..but..

I've a friend who has a notion for one of the Big-Twin engined cruisers - possibly a Road-King. Tried to put him off - but not too hard - as I like the RK ones myself.

Issue is the engine(s). There's a few older 1340 engined ones around for sale.

I had one of the Evo 1340 lumps in a Dynaglide a while back. Torque aplenty, and (apart from a crappy aftermarket alarm) ultra reliable. Couldn't live with it long-term though as there was an awful engine resonance that kicked in around 3800 rpm / 60 mph ish which got to be unbearable. Easy to ride through it, or short-shift to avoid it - and it was actually a smooth running thing everywhere else, but not right smack in the middle of the rpm range where you... [Read More]

» cheap brake discs
Jul 16, 2019 - 12:10 PM - by Bren
the brake discs on my 07 sv650 are a bit worn, so gonna get new discs.
I'm not sure how much longer I'm gonna drive the sv coz maybe its time for a newer bike - so prob no point in sticking in expensive discs.

Do cheap ones do a decent job, or is it waste of money?
I found these on amazon. Anyone here ever use a brand called Tarazon?

» Black/Silver pressed Reg. plate - online sellers ?
Jul 15, 2019 - 8:41 PM - by -alan-
Sorry if it's been asked before, couldn't find it in the search..

I need a decent old-style black plate made up, pressed aluminium numbers with the thin aluminium border round the outside - and preferably somebody I could talk to about the spacing sizing first / maybe even get a proof emailed over beforehand.

I've used Signs and Systems online as recommended here before with good results - but they only do perspex plates.

Is there anybody else in Ireland who does the aluminium ones for bikes online ?

Thx, Alan

Hi folks, while watching the Bastille Day parade yesterday, I noticed the French lads are using motorcycles escorting tanks and stuff. Can anyone tell me what they are using from the clip below?
There was a time when I could tell a CB from a CX but all the modern ones look alike to me.

» Any ideas about a shagged Burgman?
Jul 13, 2019 - 8:07 PM - by Mickysquint
Hi guys.

I have an old Suzuki Burgman 400 that I use for work and a winter hack.
A few weeks ago on the way home from work it started to splutter, once I got home it completely conked out, and wouldn't restart.
I never bothered with it for weeks.
I've been using the FireBlade for work instead, but now I can see the tires' squaring of from the motorway miles.
So this week, I decided to strip the carbs off the Burgman, change the battery, spark plug and give it a general going over.
I can now start the bike, and it ticks over in idle, but as soon as I twist the throttle, it will cut out. Also, there's a strong smell of burning oil and smoke, a bit of black smoke from the exhaust,, although there's no leaks and the oil level is fine.

Jul 10, 2019 - 5:12 PM - by johnny b
I'd always watch a bit of the race and am always intrigued by the motorbikes they use for the marshals, police, cameramen, wheel replacement bikes (mavic) and timekeepers etc.

Over the years there have been a lot of bikes like Fjrs, Rt's, pan's, old bmw Ks were still used to recently, transalp, aprilia pegaso, kwak versus and Gixers favourite Gs to name a few.

This year there are a HUGE amount of Yamaha Nikon 3 wheelers.
Most of the Cameramen and puncture support guys are on them plus the time keepers.

Most people were scepticle of the Yamaha Nikon but it seems it's found a good market for two up marshalling. It certainly seems to make sense for filming live sport.
A lot of people suggested it could be good for disabled... [Read More]

Finally getting round to sorting some stripped threads on the 450. I've three m6 threads in the head I managed to strip all by my own cack-handedness

Was looking to buy a TimeSert kit, but jz they're expensive. Was wondering if anybody anywhere close to Dubland might have a kit with the tools for M6 inserts I could borrow for a day or two ?

Gladly pay for the inserts in beer-tokens/fuel/used bank notes/access to the young wan for an agreed period of time/whatever..

» Fazer front brake
Jul 08, 2019 - 8:35 AM - by shauncreed
Hi Folks. Got a new tire on the front of my fazer. After installing the brakes are touching slightly. I can spin it about half a turn on a push by hand. It spun much more freely previously. After I had the tire on I did the following (a few times).
1. Take off both calipers and push the pistons back fully
2. Reinstall calipers hand tight
3. Pump the brake till they were grabbing the disk
4. Held the brake closed and tightened the caliper mounts fully

Result, wheel not spinning freely after brake released.
I believe the axel is seated properly in the shock as it threads onto the left shock and I bounced the shocks a few times before tightening the clamp at the end of the right shock (no clamp on the left shock as the axel just threads on... [Read More]
